Co-op Month has been celebrated annually in October across the United States for more than half a century. Each October, cooperative members reflect on the many benefits of cooperation and take the opportunity to educate others about the value of cooperative businesses.

Cooperative Network’s 2018 Co-op Month theme, “Cooperatives See The Future,” recognizes the many ways cooperatives work to meet the needs of their members and communities rather than generating returns for distant investors, not only for today but with a vision for the future. Because cooperatives are owned and controlled by the people who use or deliver their services, decisions are made with the best interest of co-op members in mind--not to financially benefit corporate stockholders. From attending an annual meeting to serving the cooperative’s board of directors, members are educated and encouraged to be actively involved in setting policies and shaping the future of their cooperatives.
